I have a question about jobs in las vegas ?
I am planning on moving to Las Vegas in the Jan 2008. I have over 7 years of experience working in a call center in customer service and collections. I am looking for similar work. I am making this move with about
3 months of savings plus I have some expenses in renting an apartment, furniture, and any other cost that may arrise. Im coming out with no job but I am hopeful that when I come out I will be able to find a job right away. Can someone who lives in vegas tell me if Im in for a struggle in finding work in that town or should I be ok. Lets put it this way, I have about $5000 in the bank and thats it…would this be a dangerous move..?

you might have to work in the entertainment field….depends on your skills too…..5k aint nothing in the real world.
I agree with Dan M.
My in-laws live in Vegas /My brother in law works in a casino. The cost of living there is high enough that it could wipe $5K out in a hurry. You may want to go ahead and have a job lined up, apt, etc…
The good thing about working in Vegas is that there is no state income tax.
Good luck! You will love it when you get there, but just be “over prepared” instead of going in a little “under prepared” with 5000 dollars.
5k might as well be five dollars in Las Vegas or anywhere else in the real world. I would definately take something in the casinos while I was getting on my feet and search for what you really want on your days off.
I would check out Citi. They have a large call center for credit card operations in western LV and they are always hiring.
Williams Sonoma also has a customer care center in LV, and they are seeking people as well.
If you can get a job similar to these, $5000 should be enough to survive til the first paychecks start rolling in. However, it’s NOT enough if there is any delay whatsoever. I would think about trying Monster or one of the other job sites to see if you can arrange something in advance.
Hope this helps.
Sprint is hiring right now.
HSBC does collections, know several people that have had that job.
Sitel or Client Logic is always hiring.
Go to the direct web sites or use Monster and Career builders.
You can get this accomplished fast and if you have experience even faster.
You can get a job by the end of the week.
You have to pass a drug test for most jobs out here.
With CSR and call center experience, you should have no trouble at all finding a job. I have a really good lead for you. Zappos.com, the shoe website has their call center here. From everything that I have heard, it is a GREAT place to work.
Here’s some bullets:
- Lunch is catered daily free of charge. Unlimited snacks and drinks from FREE vending machines.
- Flexible schedules
- Good pay starting at about $12 per hour I believe
- LOTS of advancement opportunities
- Paid training
- Paid benefits
Go to their website and apply…you can do it today.

I am happy in my current job, but if I ever lost it, I would go to Zappos. Some of the other things that I’ve heard are that they have 3 “resting” rooms for breaks and whatnot where you can hang out in a recliner and watch some TV before going or returning to work.
The cool thing about Zappos too is that they have free shipping, and free returns for up to 1 year after purchase, so it’s easy to keep customers happy. I’m convinced that it will be the easiest CSR job you’ve ever had. Based on my friends who work there, I can almost guarantee that you will love it. It shouldn’t be too hard to get in with your experience…they are ALWAYS hiring. Their training is pretty strict and they don’t tolerate tardiness AT ALL…other than that, you can have pink hair, tattoos, or whatever. They are very centered around the individual.
I wish you the best of luck and I hope that you’ll try them out…I have only heard good things.
