HELP, please read these options. Where should I move? Which option is best?
Okay so I want to move out my parents house VERY SOON like by next month or earlier if possible. Before it gets cold anyway. These are my current options:
Go back to my old college for grad school (Spring 09) and in the meantime get an apartment in the area ($750-$900/month) My school doesnt offer housing for the grad level students. So this would be my best bet to relocate altogether. I am fairly familiar with the area and know people who still attend the college even though I graduated roughly 2 years ago. I would not be completely alone in a town I dont know. Downside is the town is small, nothing to do–I dont have a car but I would use extra loan money to purchase one once I begin classes.
Another issue is all of the apartments in my opinion are overpriced without any furnishings. So it would be even more expensive to purchase furniture or air beds, etc.
The next option is to move to Philadelphia, PA. There are actually some decently priced apartments that run in the $600-$800 range. I want to live as close to downtown or Center City as possible for the public transportation since I do not have a car. I came across a nice ad that is only asking for $550 a month but wants a $600 deposit, 1 months rent and to pay an application fee. It would be shared housing, I get my own room share a bathroom but have access to all amenities/utilities included that I need. There is a great apt/condo development called Chestnut Hills most apts in the $810-$1050 range they are fully furnished with great amenities. The only issue there is the rooming I want wont be available until December. The available rooms are all expensive and are very large 2 and 3 bedroom apartments. I just want a one bedroom, one bathroom apartment!
The last and final option is to live in the south (NC) where most of my mother’s family is. You can actually get a very affordable apartment for $400-500/mo even less in the major cities. The downside is I would have to get a car which is an additional expense. Another plus side is my cousin could live with me she is with her parents too.
Which option should I take? Try to give a reason why I should or should not consider certain choices. Thank you.
Altogether I have about $2500 saved up towards the move. This is only meant to be enough for the first two or three months thats it.
Thanks for answering my question everyone I really appreciate the answers I have gotten so far. To answer the obvious, I am not currently employed and I dont have a car. I figured that if I move to a larger city like Philadelphia, I would be able to find a job much easier/public transit. As for NC, although its most affordable rent wise my mother’s family is much more intrusive than they need to be so maybe that is not a good idea. My cousin is having a hard time getting work herself!
As for going back to graduate school, I think its my best bet at this point only because a shared housing situation doesnt seem desirable to me, the more I think about it. Plus I dont know anyone in that city that well so maybe I should stick with going back to school. This school is most likely to accept me.
My goal is ultimately to go back to school and get a decent job. The sooner the better. I am at the point in my life where I want to make my own decisions and have MORE liberties

Best books on Buddhism?
I am looking to learn more about Buddhism and specifically, Buddhist Meditation techniques. I am definitely a beginner, but I don’t need a Buddhism for Dummies type of book. In other words I didn’t just discover the word Buddhism the other day and I don’t need to be told that Buddha came from modern day India
. I am interested in the Theravada and Zen forms of Buddhism. A book that delves into the different schools and beliefs is welcome too. So basically, I’m someone who has read through wikipedia (lol) and I know a Buddhist I can call on to help.
What I am not looking for (in no particular order):
1. Reasons why I should care about the environment. Not that I have anything against the environment, but I am looking for a more traditional, powerful book that focuses on the mind and meditation.
2. A Psychology book with Buddhist overtones. I am interested in Buddhism for psychological purposes (becoming patient, stronger in mind, body), but I want the good stuff.
3. A comparison of world religions.
4. A book on furniture placement.
What I am looking for (in no particular order):
1. A book that delves into meditation techniques for gaining control over the mind and body (by body I DON’T mean levitating off the ground or any New Age nonsense). A book that helps with self-instructing since I have no Buddhist centers near me.
2. A book that focuses on Theravada practices, meditation techniques, and history.
3. A book that focuses on Zen practices and meditation techniques.
4. A book that delves into the philosophy (and possibly history) of Buddhism.
5. A book that can blow my mind if I am smart enough to understand it.
Thanks to all who answer, and hopefully what I asked for made some sense to someone.
Thank you Jason, Upasakha Jason, and Coop for your ‘serious’ answers. I will definitely check out each of your recommendations.
I checked for a local Buddhist center, but they seemed to have closed in 2007. ![]()
Thanks Sati. I am checking out Mindfulness in Plain English, Old Path White Clouds, and The Heart of Buddha’s Teachings.

Best File Backup Software?
Looking for a Backup Program that is better than Vista’s built-in Backup program. Backup and Restore Center I believe it’s called.
Last time I backed up, I lost all my .exe files and installed programs, would be really great if there was a program that could restore all of that.
Any recommendations?

Trade Union – Call Centres – Which is the best one in the UK?
Im getting a bit of hasle at the moment from my manager at JigSaw Insurance (who deal with Talk Talk from the Carephone Warehouse)
Its a sales environment, each day its getting more and more beyond a joke
Some examples…
If we fail to hit target, he will expect us to stay and hit our target after work UNPAID on a CASH COMMISION only.
(Ive worked 8hrs at times and only got 1 sales)
The data is crap we call customers like 6 times a day!!! there peed off so to speak from previous cold calls.
I got 40 mins training only on the product with my collegue
Yet his cussing us because we arent hitting target like the new guys who had 3 days worth of training
A collegue had wrote innapropiate comments on a customers account (Truthful ones that just reflected what the customer told him) but should have worded Abusive rather than the swear words
He pulled me in and tried to accuse me of doing the same when I hadnt
When I try to defend my self he accuses me of having an attitude.
I was off sick, he then tells me off for not phoning him directly when he failed to supply us the number, I contacted the interviewer as that was the only number I had and left a message.
He tried to make out my collegue who started with me who happened to be also ill (nothing to do with me, we both had food poisoning from the local takeaway) he phoned the interviewer got thru to him and he gave him the managers number, I didnt and I left a message on his answer phone and yet I got told off for not making efforts (Dispite the fact I had to use a payphone to call him and didnt have the money to keep trying so I left a message)
I need to know of a good union to join because I feel his taking the pee and it has to be one that deals with call centres.
UNISON dont deal with call centres
Trade would be: call centres / Home entertainment (Phone and Broadband) / Sales
PS today I got told off for signing off at home time with only 2 sales (My target was 4)
I was supposed to keep working until I hit my target (Apparently) and he wasnt happy i was the first to sign off, yet loads had achieved only 1 sale some hadnt even got a sale for the whole day
The average for the day was 2 sales, one or two got 3 sales and only 1 achieved 4 sales
The end result to that was him threatening me with my job
