Available Careers: Jobs in Philippine Call Centers

A lot of Filipinos now are looking at call center jobs in the Philippines as a viable career. Thinking about just how bad the economy is right now, this should be no surprise to anyone. After all, having a job in a contact center is a big deal because the wages are extremely competitive. But what exactly does it mean to be a contact or call center agent? What kind of qualifications will one need to get into this career? What are this career’s distinct advantages? Also, what are this career’s distinct disadvantages? All these will be answered in below. If you are trying to weight things and trying to decide whether or not a job at Philippine call centers is really for you then read on.

Qualifications
What does it takes to be a call center agent? Do you have what it takes to be a call center agent? There are real challenges to being an agent. It’s not all fun and games since this can be a very stressful job for some people. Fortunately, a lot of call centers do not necessarily ask for college degree graduates as it is really not necessary for the job. However, there are still a lot of skills needed for you to qualify in this line of work. First and foremost, you must have a command of spoken English language. Dealing with customer service management also requires good memory and quick wits in answering the customer’s queries properly.

Range of Pay and Benefits
There is a good reason why jobs in Philippine call centers are extremely high in demand. This is because the pay is relatively higher than most other jobs in the country. If you are working in other industries, even in the medical industry, if you are not a doctor, then it is likely that call center agents will have a higher paycheck than yours. Another great compensation that is always attached to call center jobs is medical benefit. Philippine contact center job is complete without it. Contact agents are susceptible to a host of diseases because of the nature of the work.

Disadvantages
The call center agent lives a very different kind of life from the rest. Call center agents are nighthawks. They forced to sleep during the day and wake up during the night. This can be taxing for some people. Not everyone can handle this kind of lifestyle. There are many drawbacks to working night shifts. For one thing, you will not be able to keep in touch a lot with your friends who have normal schedules since you might have shifts on Sundays or Saturdays and your free time will probably not coincide with theirs. As what was mentioned earlier, there is a significant health disadvantage to being a call center agent because you will be going against your body’s natural circadian rhythm. People who have serious heart problems should not even consider applying as a agent in call centers.

So there you have it, do you have what it takes to work call center jobs in the Philippines?

Military Spouses and work/portable careers?

I have been a military spouse for a year now and my husband is currently deployed. When he left, I moved back home with my parents and basically just found any job I could so that I could start earning money. I work at a hospital as a unit secretary and while I don’t hate my job, I don’t feel like it is stimulating and don’t want to do it forever. My issue is the same issue all military wives face, I’ll work here for this 15 month deployment, then move back to his duty station for a year, then have to decide between staying there or moving back home for another year, then move again, and again, and again… we don’t have any children right now, so my job is a major focus for me when he is gone.. any suggestions for portable careers? has anyone found any of the work at home programs (call center stuff or virtual office assistant) to be legit? I want to do my share to bring income in for our family, but I also want to do something that doesn’t bore me for the rest of my life. Thank You!
It isn’t so much that I ‘have to run home’, it was just easier to deal with our first deployment at home with my family and friends, as opposed to at the military base where I didn’t really know anyone. If I had a job that I had enjoyed then I would have given much more consideration to staying, but since I didn’t have a job, I didn’t try to find one just to stay. Also, we have been able to save a lot of money since I am living with my parents. Once we have children that are school aged, I know I will stay put at bases when he deploys, just so the kids don’t have to change schools anymore than absolutely necessary. But, even if I did stay at his duty station when he deployed, my husbands says that guys with his MOS usually get sent to a new base every 3 years or so,… and even that is a lot to move when you are trying to buid a career… but the goverment jobs seem like a good idea since it doesn’t sound like you lose your benefits which each move.. be it yearly or every 3 years.
