Government watchdog report highlights questionable spending at City Hall
A new report by the Bureau of Governmental Research highlights questionable spending by the city, mismanagement of public records, as well as inefficiency and waste at New Orleans City Hall. After reviewing hundreds of city contracts from 2009, BGR now questions why the city hired certain companies, without ever giving other businesses a shot at applying for the same job. The group’s findings …

Feldman Law Center ? Loan Modifications Ramped Up by Government
The world of loan modifications is ever changing, and proof positive is the federal government’s ever-expanding role in influencing banks to offer loan modifications. It was recently reported that the government is frustrated with the progress of their federal loan modification program, and are trying to influence major banks to increase the number of loan modifications for homeowners. Of course, increasing the number of loan modifications means relaxing the standards which they are currently using to allow for mortgage loan modifications.
Banks such as Bank of America, Citigroup, J.P. Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo were all summoned to a meeting in Washington, D.C. to discuss ways to improve the federal loan modification program, which was announced in February 2009. The Obama Administration put a great deal of effort and hope into the program, but it has not yet produced the kinds of results people thought it would. The administration’s goal is to complete 500,000 trial loan modifications, although some analysts fear this is far too optimistic. The government has discussed ways to expand the program, including ways to simultaneously modify mortgages and home equity loans. When President Obama took office earlier this year, the number of foreclosures was sky rocketing due in large part to the subprime mortgage crisis and the adjustable rate mortgages (ARMs) which were offered so rampantly. As a result, millions of Americans were losing their homes and the government felt it needed to intervene.
While the level of government involvement is new, loan modifications, are nothing new. California loan modification attorneys have been helping people stay in their homes for years, by helping them get home loan modifications without government interference. Millions of people throughout California have used California loan modification attorneys for their California home loan modifications because attorneys carry a special place in our current culture. When a loan modification attorney calls a bank or lender, they get a much quicker response because they have the law on their side. When people try to handle loan modifications on their own, they usually do not know what they are doing exactly and can make many mistakes as a result.
The recent government programs have helped a few people, but since the banks all have huge bureaucracies and the federal government is one giant bureaucracy, people often get lost in process. Trying to call the federal loan modification program hotline can cause major headaches, and trying to get one huge bureaucracy to call another huge bureaucracy can take months and months. While it is encouraging that the federal government is trying to help the average homeowner, a loan modification attorney can get better results in less time.
A loan modification can help adjust a number of mortgage terms to lower your monthly mortgage payment, thus allowing you an affordable payment you can pay consistently. California loan modification attorneys, such as those at the Feldman Law Center, have years of experience in helping people avoid foreclosure and stay in their homes. Our loan modification attorney team is highly skilled in helping California homeowners in avoiding foreclosure, avoiding bankruptcy, avoiding a short sale and avoiding the “just walk away” option.

Telemarketing Efforts by Government Helps
It is common knowledge that the backing of the rulers can make a huge difference to development and industrialization. The same goes for the call center sector. The support of the government can make or break the BPO industry in a country or area. If the government is supportive of the BPO service and recognizes the industry as an essential revenue earner, it will make efforts to seal the deal with telemarketing investors. Every telemarketing company would like to deal with a ruling system that is cooperative and appreciative of their efforts. It’s easier to work with friendly administrations for a number of reasons, ranging from cost cuts to infrastructural benefits. I have listed down a few of them, though they are not placed in order of priority. Here they are:
1. Cost Cuts: A friendly government would mean cost cuts. There are a number of ways in which a telemarketing company can benefit. To invite more call centers in the area or country, the government announces tax evasions for certain call center services. This results in a cost cut in the production of the call center. This can be reflected in the price tag that the BPO firm offer clients for telemarketing services. Studies have proved that less expensive BPO service always manages to attract more number of projects. At a time when the clients are reeling under the cost burden as well, a slashed price tag can make all the difference. The tax evasions work for investors who are trying to set something up on a shoestring budget.
2. Infrastructure: Providing an industry with the correct infrastructure is the job of the government. If the call center industry provides revenues to the government through increased telemarketing business, it will feel enthused about doing something for the industry. Supportive administrations offer infrastructure in the form of roads and transport facilities. This makes it easier for the call center services employees to commute to work. Because the telemarketing services have a lot to do with time and night shifts, transport facilities are a must. Even though the BPO generally provides its employees with pick and drop, public transport always makes for extra convenience.
3. Training: Government agencies often take the initiative of providing telemarketing training for graduates and undergraduates. These call center training units are sometimes free centers where the young would-be professionals can learn the tricks of the trade. The courses make them ready for work at the call centers. This is the correct approach to ensure that the BPO firms are always fed with quality manpower. Good, competent BPO service is a factor of the agents working for it.
4. Promotion: The telemarketing sector of a country is as good as its representation on the global platform. Governments should take the initiative to promote their call center sector so that they can grab those international projects. It’s important for the call centers to be represented at global meets and forum talks. This is the age of marketing your telemarketing services and the government has an active role to play here.

What if your state government called for “penalizing the uninsured”?
Citing a telephone survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that was released by the Oklahoma Health Care Authority, Oklahoma State Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland announced this week that the state must take drastic steps to improve its dismal ranking in the number of residents who have no health insurance.
Stopping short of suggesting lawmakers formulate a bill that would require Oklahoma citizens to purchase healthcare insurance, Holland’s answer to the claim of nearly $1 billion in uncompensated medical coverage is to call on Oklahoma policy makers to enact what she calls “inducements” that would “encourage” citizens to purchase healthcare insurance.
These “inducements” would come in the form of what Holland refers to as “consequences” whereas the state would refuse anyone without health insurance a long list of “privileges” including, but not limited to the following:
• No OU, OSU season football tickets.
• Forfeiture of lottery or gaming winnings
• No hunting or fishing license.
• No personal exemption on state income tax.
• No homestead exemption.
• No in-state tuition discount.
• No driver’s license.
One can only assume that Holland hasn’t considered the possibility that one reason why there is nearly $1 billion in uncompensated medical coverage is that much of today’s medical billing has been outsourced to overseas companies that aren’t any better at mathematics than whoever it was in her office that determined that 579,036 (16.7%) uninsured Oklahoman’s out of a total population of approximately 3,600,000 equals 1/3 of the state.

wiemercats – I’m glad to hear that you can afford health insurance after cutting or omitting luxuries. You are aware though that there are a good number of people in this country that have nothing left to cut and still cannot afford healthcare insurance, right? Not everyone who is uninsured is wasting their money on lottery tickets or football games. In fact, I’d be more inclined to believe that if the health care system is in danger of collapse it’s more the result of wastefully spending by the bureaucrats inside the industry, not because a small percentage of a population couldn’t afford to pay the exorbitant bills they were handed. Those would be the ones who stand to make the biggest profit from socialist healthcare, which is what this is all leading to.
Kerry – The “inducements” are an infringement on the rights of Oklahomans because a large portion of that $1 billion may well be the result of a combination of late or incorrect billing by the provider, incorrect processing of claims by insurance companies and medical treatment of illegal workers which is illegal in this state except in the case of life threatening emergencies.
I have to wonder if you’ll defend the nanny government when it starts telling women that they can only have one baby like they do in China. Let me guess, as a taxpayer you don’t want to have to help pay for someone’s medical bills who can’t afford to pay them but you wouldn’t mind paying three times this amount for socialist healthcare right? Are you also one of those that believes others should be forced to pay for things that we don’t want to be involved in like abortions and gender changes?
What this world absolutely doesn’t need is one more dictatorial government and that’s what this is all leading to.
