Vande Mataram – a cry for freedom – The Heart of Modern India -

Twenty first century India, a country so complex, it is virtually impossible to depict effectively. The international media often portrays India through outmoded stereotyped clichés: corruption, slums, child labour, beggars, sacred cows, dope-smoking sadhus or its Super call centres. Boy are they wrong! So how do you portray this rapidly emerging economic powerhouse? Priyam is a 14-year-old girl of Canadian and Indian parentage. Born and raised in India, she is a perfect metaphor for modern India. Educated, aware of her heritage and steeped in her culture. Priyam takes the viewer through her village, Jejuri and explores both its progress and problems. In the microcosm of the village, we see reflected the macrocosm of modern India. Priyam looks forward to the potential and the challenges of the new century, her century, Indias century. duration: 52 minutes Produced by: Laurence Castle Productions Adelaide, Australia and Pune, India Contact: laurence.castle@gmail.com www.ajanta.info
