I want to use my computer as my telephone – with my land line phone?
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE QUESTION BEFORE YOU RESPOND – I know a lot of you will immediately respond with Skype or IM or VOIP responses – that’s NOT what I am looking for – I have a modem and headphones and a mic – I want some software that will let me use my computer just like my land-line telephone over my land-line – callerID display, dial out, call in, etc – I’ve found a couple of software solutions out there – but they’re designed for telemarketing call centers and don’t do everything I want -
UPDATE: Yes I have a modem that has voice capabilities – I made sure of it when I purchased it.
I agree – all of the hype about voip and skype and Im sw makes it almost impossible to find a good solution for this problem.
In fact the modem I bought came with software to dial out but it doesn’t have callerid or allow you to use the computer as a speakerphone.
UPDATE: I kept trying to find stuff on the web that will do what I wanted – I finally searched on “caller id software” and got lots of hits that were close or exactly what I wanted.
