Having computer problem with new Dell XPS 15 L502X…?
I’m having some very annoying problems with my new laptop. I bought it about a month and a half ago, and about a month ago the hard drive crashed and dell support agreed to replace it, giving me the windows 7, Roxio software, and DVD power discs and of course the new hard drive. The technician installed the new hard drive, and installed windows 7 for me, telling me that i could install the drivers myself with the drivers and utilities disk I already had. I was also told to re-download McAfee Platinum, my graphics driver, and Microsoft Office Home and Student online. My main problems now are the following:
McAfee keeps crashing and the Action Center tells me to turn it back on, which I do but it happens every few start-ups anyways. I did a full scan with McAfee several times but to no avail.
Drivers keep crashing, especially my wireless card. At one point I also had another 3 unknown driver problems as well. i had to use system restore every time, and it gets very tedious and nerve-racking. The fact that system restore seems to fix these problems make me think its not a virus, but a computer flaw.
The turning on of the computer is flawless, but at login it goes very slowly, and seems to be getting slower every start-up. This does not occur at when I login, log off, then log back in again, and I find this strange.
Turbo Boost for my i5-2410 crashed but for some reason I was able to turn it back on again.
In short, I almost expect a new problem every time I open my laptop, and its starting to make me anxious. I have thought of two main solutions:
Call Dell.Support again and demand a full replacement
Re-install windows 7 (will this remove all problems?)
Hopefully one of those works, if not any suggestion? Please, I’m all ears!!!
MTH, i’m a bit unsure of how to do that. do I just insert the disk and follow onscreen instructions or something? Also, will re-installing windows completely remove any previous files, programs, etc. in case it is a virus problem? Also, I have no special files i need to keep, so wiping my hard drive would be no problem.
PS: I’m new to computers so please make instructions thorough.
Melinda, I’m not sure if that site’s reliable, because mcafee doesn’t have a check mark over it, it has a question mark, so i’ll pass thanks.
Carling, I’m actually seriously considering Linux, but I have a few questions: Do I need drivers, and can I run the following programs just as good as on windows: Itunes (with the store working of course), media go (“), DVD video soft, steam (a biggie, as i have bought several games already, and i love gaming on PC), any PC games (“), microsoft office home and student (I know about open office, but I already bought this. Yes I have hears of wine, but I also heard it was a bit buggy, and running two OSes at once could be a major slowdown, esp. when I’m playing Crysis! Thanks in advance
MTH, I don’t have a lot of time right now (exams), but i’ll try it out in about a week, thanks.
Oh, and Carling, I have a geforce 540m, and I’m not sure how to install the drivers. I also heard that geforce drivers could be a problem on linux. any suggestions?
What kind of problem I have?
Today morning when I switched on my laptop I found that the keys on the right side of the keyboard were emitting wrong characters – like numbers or special characters. I thought something has gone screwed up, so I researched on the internet for hours about keyboard mixup, downloaded some software for reassigning values to keys, restoring the registry to an earlier version etc; none of them worked. I then decided to revert to a system snapshot I had, and so spent hours copying new files to CDs and finally gave up this approach coz I didn’t have enough disks to copy all the movies I had. Then I called up the service center and asked them to send in their service engineer at the earliest time possible.
After this I again researched on the internet and finally found one link that said Numeric lock causes this problem. Till now I had been believing that laptops don’t have numeric lock, and only after reading this website I searched and found it on my keyboard. It was indeed on! Earlier I
Earlier I had seen a bluelight was on, but had assumed that this light always used to be on or something and had not suspected this could be indicating numeric pad locked. All in all I have wasted 12 hours at this stupid problem. I’m unable to forgive my stupidity. Why am I sooooooo stupid???
I need serious answer. I do believe this kind of stupidity is unusual so I want to cure it.
To top it all, I had not noticed that the “wrong” characters being emitted were printed in the lower left handside of the keys I pressed; like, key “k” has “2″ on it to indicate what character comes when the numlock is on.

India – Are you facing problem in internet from last hour?? India internet is down!?
I work in a software company as a System Administrator.
Our lease line was down. I called VSNL Corporate centre they said “Whole India is facing this problem. There can be a big issue. Connectivity is not assured today. They are working hard to find out the reason but hasn’t found yet”
Are you experiencing slow or down connection in India??
Please Reply. I live in Pune – Maharashtra.
I’m having a problem with my browser. In many cases when I try to access a web page the same message pops up.?
This message pops up:
Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you requested.
We are sorry but your query looks similar to requests from a computer infeñted by viruses or spyware applications.
To protect our users, we can’t proceed with your request at the moment.
We will restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again later.
Meanwhile, if you suspect that your computer or network has been infected, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your system is free of viruses and other malicious software.
Seems strange that the word “infected” is misspelled.
I’m running McAfee virus/spyware protection and it’s up to date as of the time I’m posting this message.
I should mention that McAfee did find and remove a trojan this morning called “Privacy Center.” Since that time I’ve rerun a complete scan and McAfee found nothing.
The only other thing that I’ve tried doing is deleting all the temp internet files and cookies.
Thanks for any and all help.

Can you give some tips on how to solve this problem using simple c language?
You are to create a software called Font MAcKER which can display letters on the screen following specified characteristics given by the user. The user inputs 5 capital letters, the height desired in terms of number of characters (from 5 to 12), the color desired (allow 5 color choices), and the horizontal justification desired (left justified, right justified, or centered). Then the letters are displayed vertically centered.
Complexity of the font type will be considered in grading. Your software should be able to handle the following letters: A C D E F G H I J L N O P S T U X Z
All user inputs should be validated. Relevant user prompts & messages should be provided.
You are to design based on your creativity 3 main screens, namely Introduction Screen, Main Screen (min size = 20 x 70), & Closing Screen. You are required to use colors in your displays. Note that screen displays may vary depending on terminal settings.
