Homework Help Guide for Parents: 10 Quick Tips

Parents play a key role in the homework process. Are you setting the right example for your children? Read on to find out how you can help them succeed without completing their assignments for them.

1. Designate a time and place

Creating a routine for your child will help them get in the habit of completing their homework without prompting. Make sure their “homework space” is quiet, has proper lighting, and a desk or writing surface. Do your best to minimize unnecessary interruptions so that your child can focus on their assignments.

2. Provide needed materials

Ensure that your child has all of the necessary supplies and resources to complete his or her assignments. It’s also a good idea to have essentials on hand like a good dictionary, paper, pens, pencils, scissors, rulers, etc.

3. Set expectations

Make sure that your child knows your policy for homework time. How many breaks do they get and how often? What can they do on the breaks? What are the consequences of not finishing their assignments? Define these and other scenarios for your child.

4. Give ‘em a break

Some experts suggest giving kids a 5 minute break every 15 minutes, while others feel children can work for increments of time longer than 15 minutes. Experiment with lengths of breaks to find what works best for your child. Avoid letting them watch television or play video games during break time as they will likely resist going back to homework once they have begun such activities.

5. Take an interest

Ask your child about his or her assignments, what topics they discuss in class, and what sort of expectations the teacher has set for the students. Ask about upcoming projects, your child’s favorite subjects, and what they like most about their school and classes.

6. Be available

Make sure that your child knows that they can come to you for help as needed. Take the time to understand their assignments and avoid getting frustrated with them if they don’t pick up an idea quickly. Be patient and maintain your calm–your child is likely frustrated as well and adding your frustration will only exacerbate the situation.

7. Provide praise and reward

Reward a job well done with an incentive program that you and your child can agree on. The most common is reminding them of an activity that they enjoy that they can engage in once their homework has been completed. This tried and true motivation is both simple and powerful for children of all ages.

8. Involve other family members

If you have multiple children, encourage them to help (not complete) with one another’s homework. Often times even children of the same family will have different strengths and weaknesses.

9. Review the completed assignment

Once your child has completed their homework, look it over to ensure that they have properly understood the assignment and to help them with any mistakes they may have made.

10. Know where to turn for additional help

Even the smartest of parents can get stumped from time to time. Head to your local library for starters and talk to a librarian. Some libraries even offer a homework help center, help line, or online support. Take advantage of their training and expertise.

Stop Telemarketers from Calling You With This Quick and Easy Technique

While there are many, many methods out there to get and keep telemarketers from calling you, I recently hit on a very simple and very effective method for getting them to stop.

It’s simple:

Treat your phone like your email – don’t consider that anyone has a right to call you that you don’t know. But don’t just hang up. They’ll keep calling back (this is due to the computer programs they use, which tell them any answered phone is a prospective “sale”.)

As soon as they’ve asked for someone (“Can I speak to _____?”), and you’re sure that this calling person is no one you actually know (this will probably only take a couple of seconds), just say: “No.” and then hang up the phone.

I’ve found that this simple method has cut my telemarketers incoming calls down to almost nothing. Infrequently, I do get some calls when my name has been newly sold to a different company, but these calls are getting fewer and fewer.  I now go days at a stretch without any calls or messages left on my machine.

That’s right.

How could this possibly work? Simple:

1. The caller reached a real, live person.

2. That person legally turned down their offer.

Their computerized dialing machines are set to dial back any no-answer indefinitely. So, hold back until you get a live individual on the other end. (You’re probably going to have to say something so the machine knows they have a live person.)

Once you get an actual person  on the line, then just say “No.” This also gives new input to their calling program, which then efficiently notes you as “dud” number. And then dutifully records that data with the main database. They then probably won’t try to sell your “dud” name and number to the next guy. And word gets around, as these programs are quite interconnected.

Just like your email – don’t know the individual, just hit delete. Don’t open anything up you don’t know where it came from.

It’s the same with your own personal phone. When invented, phones used to be private, respected. But some canny marketers capitalized of the “manners” people were brought up with.

Here’s the new version of telephone manners: Just say “No.” and hang up.

(Note here: If you’ve got Caller ID and only get an open line with no one on the other end – you can report this incident  to the FCC to get them fined. Simply take that number and do a reverse look up to find that line’s owner. Repeat offenses make it possible for you to take them to small claims court and possibly get a settlement against them.) On the other hand, if you report every single instance to the FTC, and FCC, this starts accumulating a sizable federal case against them.

And since often one call center is servicing a dozen or twenty different organizations – and using the same outgoing telephone number – shutting that number down will place them into some serious expense getting another one.

You can’t expect this simple technique to shut down all telemarketers, but  it will at least start getting your phone back to private.

Say only one word, “No.” and then do that single action: Click!

Take it for a test drive. Today.

5 Quick Steps to Start a Call Center at Home

Like many people working from home is just a dream, but that can change. You might be thinking about trying to make some money either online or with one of those “Work From Home and Make Millions” type offers. Before you commit to something like that, make sure they aren’t asking for money upfront. Anyone that asks for money to help you make money isn’t looking out for your best interests, they just want to sell a product!

While the possibilities for making money at home are endless, any option you choose will take work. If you’re willing to put in some work, you can make money working from home!

So here we go, 5 quick tips to get you started with you’re own at home call center.

1. Find your workspace.

You’ll want to find an area that you can dedicate to your new call center job in your home. Without a special call center space, your callers will hear your baby cry, the doorbell ring and your dog barking. All those those things tend to turn potential buyers away.

For most people this workspace can be a bedroom, converted garage, or even an office at home if you’re fortunate enough to already have an office.

2. Get a decent computer.

This computer doesn’t have to be the latest model with the fastest CPU, but it does have to be reliable. A good option is to have an older computer as a backup in case something happens to your main computer. The main thing this computer needs to do is get on the internet.

3. Download Skype and get familiar.

Skype is free to download and you can make and receive calls. Skype offers a few paid plans, but most are still less expensive than a regular land line.

You should use Skype with a headset and try to make and receive calls so you’ll know what to expect. During this test you should listen to the call quality and how quickly and efficiently everything works.

4. Use SkypeIn for each client.

Since you’ll most likely start your at home call center by having a few different clients and receiving calls from each client on a daily basis, you’ll need to know how to answer the phone. SkypeIn allows you to have a phone number for each client. This way you will know which client you’re answering for before you pick up the phone.

5. Find your clients.

This part of the process is the most difficult. You’ll need to contact people directly and check out freelance websites on a daily basis. These clients can be tough to find, but once you find one, you’ll know how to find more for your at home call center.

My favorite places to look at call center blogs and job sites. Many times you can find companies looking to hire call center consultants that are willing to work from home. That saves them money and you get the freedom to work from home.

Quick Weight Loss Centers And If They Can Help You

First off, you have to ask yourself if you would be able to afford to go to one of these centers. Many of these weight loss centers cost large amounts of money in order to use their program, and often require that you use them for a significant period of time before you begin to notice any real improvement in your weight, or any lasting improvement. This can be discouraging for people who are looking for a truly quick weight loss solution.

Another thing that you should consider before deciding to use one of these centers is whether or not it will provide you with something you cannot provide yourself. If you simply need a way to watch your calories or to stay on a specific diet, then perhaps all you need is a friend or family member who will help you in your goal. This can save you significant amounts of money and helps to let you know that you can rely on your friends and family. This is a great alternative for some to quick weight loss centers.

But maybe you are in need of something more in order to help ensure that you lose weight, or perhaps you simply need that extra motivation in order to make that step from just wanting to lose weight to actually doing so. If this is the case and you are able to afford it, then you should search for a quick weight loss center that is located near you. Try to find one that seems to feel right to you. Remember, you will be the one using this weight loss center, so it only makes sense that you should feel right at home with it.

Another thing to remember is that these centers help to ensure that you are able to not only lose weight and become the perfect size for you, but also aim to help you work towards maintaining that weight, so that you do not simply gain it all back. This can be quite beneficial, both for your health and your self-esteem.

Though many of these weight loss centers are not needed by some, they do possess the facilities in order to help assist those who do need help in ensuring their weight loss are able to receive that help. If you have thought about looking for quick weight loss centers near you, perhaps now is the time to start.
